The Flagstaff Unified School District Foundation is proud to recognize our Board Vice President, Bobby Macias, who was recently honored in Northern Arizona University’s Humans of NAU series. The feature highlights Bobby’s remarkable journey as a third-generation Flagstaff resident, first-generation college graduate, and dedicated educator.
Bobby currently serves as a lecturer in the College of Education at NAU, where he was named the 2025 College of Education Teacher of the Year. Known for his collaborative teaching style and justice-oriented philosophy, Bobby approaches education with deep purpose and integrity. His impact on students and colleagues alike stems from a belief in centering all voices and creating inclusive, empowering learning environments.
In the interview, Bobby reflects on his early inspiration to become a teacher while working as a tutor at Kinsey Elementary. He credits mentors and community support for shaping his path, and he continues to pay it forward by mentoring the next generation of educators.
As a board leader for the FUSD Foundation, Bobby brings this same passion for equity, community, and education to everything he does. His commitment to creating a more just and compassionate educational system directly aligns with the Foundation’s mission to support and uplift Flagstaff’s public schools and students.
We encourage you to read Bobby’s full story, which offers insight into his personal journey, his teaching philosophy, and his vision for the future of education.
We are honored to work alongside Bobby and grateful for the leadership he brings to both the FUSD Foundation and the broader Flagstaff community.
